Strawberry season in Middle Tennessee marks the official arrival of spring and summer. Petite ruby red berries abound at local farmers markets. And unlike many of the typical grocery store varieties, they're smaller, sweeter and bright red throughout.
When we recently stopped and loaded up on strawberries at the Nashville Farmers' Market, it was clear that we couldn't simply eat them all . . .so the idea of making pops was quick to follow.
You can experiment with adding more or less Pennington's, but even just half a cup boosts the natural strawberry flavor and makes these delicious treats disappear faster than they can melt!
4 cups fresh (preferably local) trimmed and sliced strawberries
1/2 cup Pennigton's Strawberry Rye Whiskey
1/2 cup simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water)
Combine your strawberries, Pennington's and simple syrup in a blender and process on high until perfectly smooth. Pour into a popsicle mold, place sticks in mold and freeze overnight. If desired, you can use long skewers as we did to keep the drips off your fingers!
